Words from Bev Gravdahl on how AllHealth Home Care came to be

We want to make a difference...
I have always wondered how I can make a difference in people’s lives – this is the foundation of AllHealth Home Care and why it has been established. We want to make a difference and bring an emphasis to a person’s ‘Whole Health’ by recognizing health as encompassing body, mind and spirit. We believe that real care recognizes that people are indivisible wholes – fully integrated physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual beings.

I grew up on a farm and graduated high school from Thompson Public School. I worked as a C.N.A in an assisted living and nursing home setting prior to pursuing my nursing degree in 1992 (North Dakota State College of Science, Associate of Nursing, 1992; University of North Dakota, Bachelor of Science Nursing, 2005). During my nursing career I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings such as hospital, nursing home, clinic and most recent being within the areas of community health, faith communities, education and outreach – and I have had some wonderful mentors along the way! In 2008, I responded to a call to serve as a Faith Community Nurse (Concordia College Course Certification, 2008) at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. This was when I decided to dedicate my nursing practice from that point forward, to the practice of ‘Whole Health’ and integrating faith and health in all that I do. My pastor helped me to realize that sometimes just “being” is all that is needed to nurture a person’s health. It may seem very simple, yet I have come to embrace this as a privilege and know what a powerful intervention this can be – just the genuine act of caring.

Nurturing Body, Mind & Spirit...
Growing up I was fortunate enough to spend time with my grandparents, who all had a tremendous influence on me – I just loved spending time with them – and still do with my ‘Grandma Ruth’ who is 91 years old today. My parents and grandparents instilled the value of hard work and showed me how we were called to care for others. I refer to Philippians 2:4 “Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others.”

I have had the privilege of serving both young and old with a genuine passion for our senior community from a very young age. I understand the needs that arise as we age – many being non-medical in nature. I truly want to advocate for and help provide our most vulnerable populations quality care, to enable them to stay at home . My role as a Faith Community Nurse has helped me to realize that there must be more emphasis on non-medical interventions if we are going to fully serve those who are in need – integrating body, mind & spirit – to promote a healthy and healing environment. I am so grateful for our care team, my many mentors, and health professionals who I get to serve with every day. They are a group of wonderful and gifted individuals and also seek to serve in this ministry of care to address the needs of our community.
